POSITION
We are seeking a compassionate caregiver (Direct Support Provider/DSP) in Broomfield, CO 80023 to provide care to a 23 year old female client with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities who uses a wheelchair. Client is easy going, independent, very sweet, and funny. Your main responsibilities will include assisting the individual with all activities of daily living, including but not limited to: bathing, dressing, feeding (cut up food into pieces), transfers (Hoyer lift), hygiene (skin, hair, teeth), toileting, range of motion exercises, and wheelchair equipment maintenance/cleaning - just to name a few. Additionally, you may be required to administer emergency medication, as the client has occasional seizures. The client loves her family, art, and imitating Gordon Ramsey and his accent. Client can occasionally have behaviors that require support and family helps support with timeout to calm client down.


POSITION PURPOSE

We aim to support the development of independent living skills and encourage choice while assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in leading productive and meaningful lives. Our services and support are offered either in the homes of individuals with IDD or in their chosen community settings. These services aim to facilitate the accomplishment of goals set by the individual receiving support. The services provided are determined by the case management agency responsible for individuals with IDD.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Assist client with activities of daily living such as:
    • Bathing - assist with getting in/out and bathing tasks.
    • Dressing - client has left hand assist only.
    • Feeding - client requires food cut into 1/2" pieces and requires some support with eating.
    • Transfers - assist with transfers using Hoyer lift or help with wheelchair lift or ramp.
    • Hygiene - assist with hair hygiene, mouth hygiene like brushing teeth, and skin hygiene following skin breakdown protocol.
    • Toileting - client is incontinent and occasionally wears diapers.
    • Range of Motion exercises
    • Equipment Care/Maintenance - Wheelchair and Hoyer Lift.
    • Emergency Medication Administration for seizures.
  • Provide behavioral support to client if needed. Family uses timeout time to calm the client down.

Job requirements

REQUIREMENTS & STRENGTHS

  • Reliable transportation, valid/active drivers license and current insurance
  • QMAP certified (preferred, not required as we will train)
  • CPR certification (preferred, not required as we will train)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Flexible and dependable
  • Enjoy working with developmentally disabled individuals to improve their quality of life
  • Can quickly manage stressful situations responsibly and effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills and passionate about helping those in need
  • Experience in home healthcare, child care, medical field, adult care, or ABAT or RBT (preferred but not required)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires walking or standing a significant amount of the time during shift
  • Capability to assist client with mobility or physical assistance
  • Visual and auditory acuity to assess clients needs and respond promptly.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, grasping, lifting, reaching, pushing, twisting at waist


JOB TYPE: Part-time

SCHEDULE: 10-15 hours/week. Initially Saturdays 10am-3pm and Wednesdays 2pm-6pm. Flexibility for more hours.
